D'Esopo Bereavement Resource Center

The first of it's kind in the country

HISTORY: In 1995, to celebrate their 90th year of funeral service, the D'Esopo family opened the D'Esopo-Pratt Resource Center LLC. The center offers a lending library, one-on-one bereavement consulting, and D'Esopo's renowned support groups, run by professional bereavement counselor and author, Karen Carney. National attention was focused on The D'Esopo Funeral Chapel when it became the nation's first funeral home to open a fully operational resource center that was separate from the funeral home. Nestled in historic Old Wethersfield Connecticut, this beautifully restored building, built in 1799, provides the warm, comfortable atmosphere for people to participate in support groups, bereavement education programs, or to use the extensive lending library. All of the support groups and lending library services are offered to the community free of charge.

Complementary resources offered to D'Esopo and Pratt Funeral Chapel clients include:
*Educating parents to help explain funerals, dying, and the grieving process to children.
*Preparing children for funerals and calling hours in a non-threatening, easy-to-understand way by using the Barklay and Eve Children's Book Series written by Karen Carney.
*Offering support and bereavement education for individual family members.
*Communicating through Grief Education and Support Letter Series that helps guide families through the bereavement process during the first year following a death.
*Holding holiday support programs at various times of the year.
